"My work is a discussion on opacity—the right to not be fully understood."
Haley Puri, a Filipino American artist, investigates the intersections of race, queerness, and the body. Drawing from his experiences as a child of immigrant, he explores creating poetic objects and paintings, with an emphasis in craftsmanship, to reflect abstracted memories and experiences.
He invites audiences to create a dialogue on intimacy and materials, engaging in the quietness of everyday work and art. He currently resides in Detroit, Michigan, where he is pursuing a BFA in Painting from Wayne State University.
